Deer Talk

"Hey! Do you see what I see, Mom? Another grownup."

"Uh, I wouldn't go down there if I were you."

"Hey! Get your face out of the snow. I'm trying to talk to you."

"Ok, fine. I know when I'm not wanted. . .Hey, Mom! Wait for me!"

The deer around our homestead are a never-ending source of entertainment.

Enjoy your weekend.

Spring on the Homestead

The day I took this photo (last week)
the daytime temperature was in the high 70's.
The next morning it snowed.
Such is the month of May in the Rockies.

Hope your day is full of sunshine.

Blessings,

Nancy

River Walk

This fence runs along the River Walk in Estes Park, Colorado. Our new shop A Joyful Cottage is in the building to the right, just a few steps away.

When I arrive at the shop and get out of my car in the morning, I hear the rushing water
and smell the clean, fresh air.
Not Heaven, but close.

(For photos of our shop, skip over to A Joyful Cottage

Blessings,

Play Time

Earlier last week I watched our neighbor's horses frolick around the corral in a light sprinkling of snow. By the time I retrieved my camera they had stopped. I was disappointed, but then they began nuzzling and nibbling each other and
I ended up with this playful shot.

Blessings,

Nancy

Friday's Fences - My Kind of Colorado

To me this picture is pure Colorado: big sky and wide open spaces, majestic mountains, split rain fences and horses. The photo is a few weeks old, so everything's still a little "brown". But I would be remiss in not showing the beauty of God's creation seen here.

Blessings,

Nancy

Friday's Fence - Something Simple

On the way to Boulder last week Dennis pulled over to the shoulder to take a call. I took the opportunity to photograph this fence and the interesting mix of dried and fresh foliage.
I guess I just really enjoy
the simple, natural things around me.

Blessings,

Nancy

Friday's Fence - Open Space

We've had a very busy week, which has put me miserably behind in my social networking. Just signed a lease for
an art gallery and retail shop in downtown Estes Park.
Let the games begin!

This fence borders the open space outside of Lyons, Colorado. I believe it's a Boulder County park now.

Rural Thursday - Rustic Charm

It's been a very busy day at the homestead,
but things have finally slowed down
and the cabin is quiet now.
The dinner dishes are done, Dennis is off to a meeting
and I'm catching up on my blogging.

Remember the red barn outside of Lyons, Colorado
that I showed you on Tuesday?
Well, I thought it would be fun to zoom out
and let you see more of this charming ranch. There's a newer home that you can't see (it's to the left in this photo), but I couldn't get a clear shot from the road and, honestly, you're not missing much. The old buildings are more interesting.

Here's a close up of the old house. I couldn't tell if this beauty is occupied now, or not. It sort of looks deserted.
I'm not sure, but I think the old red sandstone structure on the right is a root cellar. On the other hand, it could be the original house on the homestead. I'm so curious to know the history of this place.
This is the south side of the house (on the right if you're looking at the front of the house). Notice there are two chimneys in the photo, which means there are at least three chimneys total on the house (remember, there were two in the previous photo). Maybe multiple fireplaces or potbellied stoves heat the house?

Here's another shot of the barn and the tool shed next to it. I love, love, love that fence.
(Did I mention I love the fence?)

And a closer look of the barn and shed, where you catch a glimpse of the funky barbed wire fence.

On another note, Paula is the winner of our artwork giveaway at A Joyful Cottage. Congratulations Paula!

So that's the news from our homestead.
What's going on in your rural world?

Friday's Fence - Ridgway, Colorado

Last weekend we took a trip down the Western Slope to the town of Ridgway.  As it was primarily a business trip, I didn't have a lot of time for photography. I did, however, manage to capture this unique fence outside the Adobe Inn , where we had a yummy dinner.

Is this fence quintessential western, or
is just  plain falling down from neglect?
You decide.

(By the way, did you notice the
very cool adobe home in the distance?)

Little southwestern lights decorated the fence every few yards. Undeniable charm.
And let's face it, I'm all about charm.

Truthfully, I'm kinda coveting those lights.
I think they'd look pretty cute around our homestead.

What do you think?

that they may see your good works,
and glorify your Father who is in heaven."

Friday's Fence - Warm Memory

I took this photo last July in Taos, New Mexico.
It was a lovely 80 degrees that day.
Today in Estes Park it's 17 degrees -- @ 7:00 AM.
I posted the image of this particular fence because it warms me.

Hope you're feeling warm today, too.

Celebrate

Truckin' Flowers - Taos, NM
"Each day, awakening, are we asked to paint the sky blue? Need we coax the sun to rise or flowers to bloom? Need we teach birds to sing, or children to laugh, or lovers to kiss? No, though we think the world imperfect, it surrounds us each day with its perfections. We are asked only to appreciate them, and to show appreciation by living in peaceful harmony amidst them. The Creator does not ask that we create a perfect world; He asks that we celebrate it." ~Robert Brault

Go out and celebrate God's world today.
Blessings,

Nancy
