The Historic Stanley Hotel - Estes Park, Colorado

"The Shining" was filmed at The Stanley Hotel.
I took this shot of "The Stanley" this morning.

River Walk

This fence runs along the River Walk in Estes Park, Colorado. Our new shop A Joyful Cottage is in the building to the right, just a few steps away.

When I arrive at the shop and get out of my car in the morning, I hear the rushing water
and smell the clean, fresh air.
Not Heaven, but close.

(For photos of our shop, skip over to A Joyful Cottage
and scroll down.)

Blessings,

Nancy

Barn Charm #82 - Outside of Ft Collins, CO

I'm late in posting to Barn Charm, but I didn't want a week to pass without joining in. This is another photo taken on the day we drove back from Cheyenne. A little out of focus, seeing as I scrambled to take from the car while hubby raced home, but it's a pretty farm.

Life is crazy right now, what with opening the new brick & mortar shop and all. I'm woefully behind on my social-networking-blog-hopping-comment-leaving fun, but I do think about all the new friends I've made through my blog this year and hope you're all well. I don't know how often I'll find time to post, but as soon as I catch a breath I promise to visit you and leave a comment.

Blessings,

Nancy

Play Time

Earlier last week I watched our neighbor's horses frolick around the corral in a light sprinkling of snow. By the time I retrieved my camera they had stopped. I was disappointed, but then they began nuzzling and nibbling each other and
I ended up with this playful shot.

Blessings,

Nancy

Barn Charm #81 - Hide and Seek

Several weeks ago I posted a photo of a ranch barn outside of Estes Park. This smaller barn on the property is partially hidden from the road above.

Here's the big picture.

Weekly Top Shot - Open For Business

This could fall under "shameless promotion", but this is not only my "top shot" this week, it's the one I'm most excited about. Our Fine Art & Consignment shop
is now open for business.

A Joyful Cottage is located at
300 E. Elkhorn Avenue, Suite #304
in downtown Estes Park, Colorado.
Just steps from River Walk.

Stop by if you're in the neighborhood. :)

Blessings,

Nancy

Friday's Fences - My Kind of Colorado

To me this picture is pure Colorado: big sky and wide open spaces, majestic mountains, split rain fences and horses. The photo is a few weeks old, so everything's still a little "brown". But I would be remiss in not showing the beauty of God's creation seen here.

Blessings,

Nancy

Rural Thursday - No Lawn Mower Required

Suddenly the landscape is green again. The temperature has been in the 70's and yesterday we receive a little rain.
During the night I actually heard thunder
and saw flashes of lightning.
The elk have returned to our homestead to graze.
Soon the wildflowers will show up.
Ahhh spring, when a young man's fancy turns to love and the elk mow the grass for us.
It doesn't get any better than this.

What's going on in your rural world?

Nancy

Barn Charm #80 - Red Top

Another barn between Loveland, CO and Cheyenne, WY. I'm sorry it's not a better photo, but I had to shoot it while my husband was driving 70 mph down the interstate. There wasn't time to pull over. Maybe one day I'll go back
and capture a full barn view.

Blessings,

Nancy

Chicken Chat

"Why did the chicken cross the road?

Grandpa: "In my day, we didn't ask why the chicken crossed the road. Someone told us that the chicken had crossed the road, and that was good enough for us."

Friday's Fence - Something Simple

On the way to Boulder last week Dennis pulled over to the shoulder to take a call. I took the opportunity to photograph this fence and the interesting mix of dried and fresh foliage.
I guess I just really enjoy
the simple, natural things around me.

Rural Thursday - First Week in April on the Homestead

The lilacs are budding, the lilacs are budding!

We got some moisture. (Answer to prayers.)
The snow melted and we discovered a big mound in our yard. Dennis thinks it could be a badger burrow. Last night I dreamed in Disney animation about a badger, a bunny, a bear and a skunk. They stood on a little knoll
and talked to each other in Brooklyn accents.
I'm worried.

Here's hoping all your dreams are happy ones.

Barn Charm - Gray Day, Gray Barn

I photographed this gray barn near Masonville, Colorado this afternoon. We were on our way back to Estes from Cheyenne, WY.

I'm not sure what the white structure
behind the barn is used for.

It's cold and overcast in the mountains today.
This bouquet mosaic cheers me. Hope it cheers you, too.

Sunday Best - Three Posers

Outside the Meadow Mountain Cafe, Allenspark, Colorado

I found this vignette outside
our favorite Sunday eatery this morning.

It's the simple, ordinary things in life
 I most enjoy photographing.

"The difference between ordinary and extraordinary
is that little extra."
