Big Red

This big red barn is the first of a series of barn shots I took while on a recent driving trip through Oregon.
We were outside John Day, Oregon
when this beauty popped up.
I love all the air vents. They almost look like windows.

Barn Break

I've been working on a writing assignment for Wesleyan Publishing the past three weeks, which has kept me on my computer but away from my blog. :(

Sometimes one just has to take a break and reconnect with one's blogging friends, so here I am. . .
breaking and reconnecting.

The barn photo is from my Nebraska file.
You can see Scottsbluff in the background

Hope your Tuesday is progressing nicely.

Cold Comfort Barn

On the twelfth day of Christmas my true love gave to me
a nasty cold.

We gave each other for Christmas an Apple TV
and a bigger screen.

We don't watch TV.

But we're one week into our free Netflix trial and
oh, baby!

Where has this been all my life?

Uh-huh, I've got a cold.
But watching a bazillion movies
kinda makes me feel better.

So does sharing a barn for Barn Charm

This beauty was in the middle of
a itty-bitty town in Nebraska.
I regret I don't remember the name.

Take care of yourselves and for goodness sake
stay away from sneezing men.
(and women)

Lone Barn

This is the second barn in my
Scottsbluff, Nebraska collection.

It sits in a corralled area all by its lonesome.

No other buildings.

No livestock. No signs of life, save a few birds in the trees.

I didn't get a sense that it's abandoned.
Although it's elderly, it's still in good shape.

As is the fence.

Quite a bit of character, I'd say.

Barn Charm #109

It's nice to, again, have a barn to share. We came across this wonderful barn on a recent trip to
Scottsbluff, Nebraska.

And here's the view from the other side. This farm is so homey and "real". Love it and its location.

Hope your week is off to a great start.

Barn Charm #87 - A Different Kind of Barn and Remembering our Service Men and Women

Another drive by photo op between Boulder and Lyons, Colorado. I've passed this unusual barn a bazillion 40 times and managed to get a semi-descent shot of it last week. (This is not the kind of highway where you pull off to get a photo. Uh. . .no.) It kind of looks like an old barn that the owner re-sided. Or something.
Well, I like funky things.

And in remembrance and honor
of those who have sacrificed so much for our country

the Reinkes say "thank you" with heartfelt gratitude.

Blessings,

Nancy

Tuesday Barn Charm #86

This barn sits on a quaint ranch at the mouth of Big Thompson Canyon. The photo is blurry because I took it from a speeding vehicle. No names will be mentioned.

Barn Charm #82 - Outside of Ft Collins, CO

I'm late in posting to Barn Charm, but I didn't want a week to pass without joining in. This is another photo taken on the day we drove back from Cheyenne. A little out of focus, seeing as I scrambled to take from the car while hubby raced home, but it's a pretty farm.

Life is crazy right now, what with opening the new brick & mortar shop and all. I'm woefully behind on my social-networking-blog-hopping-comment-leaving fun, but I do think about all the new friends I've made through my blog this year and hope you're all well. I don't know how often I'll find time to post, but as soon as I catch a breath I promise to visit you and leave a comment.

Blessings,

Nancy

Barn Charm #81 - Hide and Seek

Several weeks ago I posted a photo of a ranch barn outside of Estes Park. This smaller barn on the property is partially hidden from the road above.

Here's the big picture.

Nancy

Barn Charm #80 - Red Top

Another barn between Loveland, CO and Cheyenne, WY. I'm sorry it's not a better photo, but I had to shoot it while my husband was driving 70 mph down the interstate. There wasn't time to pull over. Maybe one day I'll go back
and capture a full barn view.

Blessings,

Nancy

Barn Charm - Gray Day, Gray Barn

I photographed this gray barn near Masonville, Colorado this afternoon. We were on our way back to Estes from Cheyenne, WY.

I'm not sure what the white structure
behind the barn is used for.

Nancy

Meanwhile, Back at the Ranch

(We should still be getting snow here in the
Colorado Rockies instead of dry, windy weather with temperatures in the 70's.
You've most likely heard of the Lower North Fork fire, near Denver, that has claimed the life of a man and his wife. Please pray for their family
and for rain for our beautiful state.
We're very concerned.
Thank you.)

This white barn sits on a ranch nestled in a small valley outside of Estes Park. I saw the place for the first time last Sunday and wanted to photograph it then,
but it was a cloudy day.
This sunshiny morning I grabbed my camera and drove out
to the ranch. Just as I arrived a mountain blue bird flew past my car. It was typically illusive and avoided being photographed. But I loved seeing it anyway.

I wanted you to see more of the ranch.

Town Barn

For two years I've been driving past this newer barn in Estes Park and have always wanted to photograph it.
Today was the day -- 50 degrees, sunny and calm.
A perfect photographic day.

The barn stands alone close to downtown, across from one of the resorts, and is surrounded by cabins. I've never, ever seen activity at this place.

Hubby says it was built by a local engineer for his family, and there may have been horses there at one time.
It's been well maintained.
I think this pretty barn might
make a great residence.

Blessings,

Nancy

Homesteader Barns

The barns I'm showing you today are closer to home than usual. This one is across the street from our neighbor's horse corral. We're told this was the barn for the original homestead where we live now. This is a side view.

This is the front view of the barn.

And another front view.

This is the barn on our property which originally started out as a log cabin for the homesteaders, who also built the barn shown at the top of this page. (Still with me?) If you look closely you'll see the loft door. Story has it the loft and the barn doors were added later, after the homestead was sold to  Estes Park Dairy.

We converted the barn to an art studio for my husband, removing the barn doors to install a window. I love this shot because it shows the reflection of the mountain in the glass. By the way, we reused the wood from the barn doors to build the wall for the window. We wanted to maintain the barn's integrity.

This is a view of the studio/barn interior.

Hope you enjoyed the tour.

Blessings,

Nancy

Barn Charm #75 - Red, Right and Blue

Sunday after church has become my unofficial time to scout for barns. This one is outside of Lyons, Colorado.

This shot shows the cloudless, brilliant blue Colorado sky. One of the reasons I love living here.

Hope you're having a sunny day where you are.

Today is the last day to enter our artwork giveaway at A Joyful Cottage. Click on the cottage to get there.

Tuesday Hop and A Joyful Cottage Giveaway

I've been off grid for a few days, out of town attending to business, but I'm baaack and ready to do the blog hop.

For Barn Charm I found this archived photo of
The Red Barn Pumpkin Farm in Eaton, Colorado.
This was taken in the fall of 2010.
This working pumpkin farm is the most charming place. I love the cute vintage trailer that the owners use as an office and resting place when the farm is open.
While many bloggers are posting photographs of daffodils and other blooms right now, here in the Rockies spring is still a delightful dream. But there is still beauty to be found in
 Rocky Mountain National Park.

This photo is my submission for Our World Tuesday.

Endo Valley, RMNP

Today is the debut of my new blog: A Joyful Cottage. <--- Click on the link right there to hop on over and enter our great international giveaway. The lucky winner will receive a Dennis Reinke art print. All the details for entering are on the blog, so get your little self to that site right now and join in the fun.

Blessings and hugs,

Nancy

In An Old Barn

Barn outside Lyons, CO

In an Old Barn
Tons upon tons the brown-green fragrant hay
O'erbrims the mows beyond the time-warped eaves,
Up to the rafters where the spider weaves,
Though few flies wander his secluded way.
Through a high chink one lonely golden ray,
Wherein the dust is dancing, slants unstirred.
In the dry hush some rustlings light are heard,
Of winter-hidden mice at furtive play.
Far down, the cattle in their shadowed stalls,
Nose-deep in clover fodder's meadowy scent,
Forget the snows that whelm their pasture streams,
The frost that bites the world beyond their walls.
Warm housed, they dream of summer, well content
In day-long contemplation of their dreams.
